Back in May, Teambros Fitness Club was contacted by Professor Kim Tae-ri, an assistant professor from the Department of Sports and Health Science at Dongguk University WISE Campus in South Korea, regarding potential collaboration. Professor Kim was planning an overseas field training program during the summer vacation to select five talented students to experience Australia’s advanced sports environment and support their career exploration. The program, named "2024 Global Sports Talent Field Training," particularly targeted students majoring in sports science and sports medicine, who showed great interest in pursuing careers as personal trainers.
Professor Kim conveyed her desire to expand the students' perspectives through this opportunity. She stated, "Sharing your success stories as both a trainer and entrepreneur in Australia would greatly inspire our students, providing them with valuable insights as they navigate their future career choices." Additionally, she emphasised that learning about the differences between the fitness industries in Korea and Australia would offer a unique and enriching educational experience for the students.
Dongguk University partnered with institutions such as the University of Technology Sydney, Deakin University, and Victoria University for this program and planned visits to Sydney and Melbourne from August 25 to 30. Teambros Fitness Club was thrilled to be selected as part of this global training program.
On Thursday, 29th of August, Dongguk University students visited Teambros Fitness Club’s premium gym in Epping. On that day, our CEO, Yohan Lim, prepared a brief presentation introducing Teambros Fitness Club and shared his expertise and experience in the fitness industry. He presented the latest statistics on the personal trainer profession in Australia, highlighting that despite a high turnover rate of 90% within the first year, the demand for personal trainers is expected to increase significantly.
Yohan emphasised how crucial it is for personal trainers to survive the first year to succeed in the industry. He pointed out that over 50% of clients often quit within the first four months of training, and he shared strategies and methods for continuing a successful career in such a challenging environment. Drawing from his experience, Yohan provided valuable insights into the key elements students need to prepare for as future trainers, leaving a strong impression on the students.
Yohan also shared his personal journey of arriving in Australia 15 years ago with limited English skills and how he managed to thrive in the highly competitive fitness industry. He emphasised the importance of preparation and continuous self-development, advising the students, "To build pride and confidence in your work, you must invest time in increasing your VALUE and becoming the best in your field. When you do that, clients will naturally seek you out." He further highlighted that consultation is the most critical aspect of being a successful trainer, stressing that understanding clients' needs and offering tailored solutions is the key to long-term success.
Following the presentation and an engaging Q&A session, the students had the chance to freely explore the gym and try out various equipment. They were impressed by the luxurious facilities at our Epping gym, particularly the cutting-edge Technogym equipment. The students were especially intrigued by machines such as the Skillrun, Booty Builder, and the exclusive PENT Fitness equipment, which they eagerly tested firsthand.
The visit concluded with an exchange of gifts and a commemorative photo, with a promise of continued collaboration to enrich the students' education and future. It was reaffirmed that learning in the classroom alone is not enough; firsthand field experience offers greater opportunities for students' growth and learning.
